Leopards beat the girls from St Mary's

Match report by Rosie's dad, Jeremy

On Saturday we played St Mary's Green. We won 3-2. Sarah was in fine form, lobbing the first goal over the opposition and making many other leading attacks.

It was yet another well-fought match, with both teams fairly evenly matched. Our girls never stop impressing me with their improving skills. All the girls are getting more gutsy, not holding back, getting in there and fighting for the ball!

Leopards overrun St Aloysius 2-1

We won a closely-fought match on Saturday afternoon. Mae's sister Mim played her first game with us. "She's excellent at tackling," says teammate Alice Cox. Sure-hands Rosie was our goalkeeper for the whole match. Well done, everybody.

Our next match on 29th July will be against St Mary's Green at Domain crossroads No. 2 ground at 10am.

Matildas surprise Leopards 2-nil

It was a lovely sunny day at the Crossroads yesterday, perfect for soccer. Last time we met, Leopards won 3-1, with Sarah kicking two goals. Congratulations to the Lenah Valley girls for their win this time. The Leopards had most of the play in the match, putting a lot of pressure on the Matildas' goalkeeper who played very well.

Alice Mary and (little) Anna were our keepers, and did a fine job, but we do need another defender to help them withstand those swarms of attackers. Alice Cox in defence had some great kicks and repeatedly turned around the Matildas' attacks. Rosie, as ever, is hard to catch when running with the ball. It was also good to see Sarah back with us this week.

Thanks to Rosie's dad Jeremy who took these pictures yesterday. And Gerard - you're absolutely right! You told me that Google easily found this Leopards website. Try this and you'll see: put 'leopards soccer tasmania' into the search box and be amazed.

Next week's match on 22nd July:
  • Leopards vs St Aloysius at 2pm at Domain Crossroads No.2 ground. Sorry for previous incorrect match info...

We didn't lose, we didn't win

We came a draw, nil-all, in cold and windy conditions if you were playing - or just plain freezing if you were a spectator.

The Mighty Leopards played Collegiate Pink. We were the dominant team on the day, playing the ball deep into Collegiate's goal area for most of the match. Despite some very good shots at goal, we never managed to find the back of the net. Bella was Captain, Mae did some good kicks, Eva and Alice-Mary were great as our goalies and the whole team played well together.

Eva models our brand-new Leopard goalie gloves

The Leopards have now reached a stage where we are beginning to learn specific 'skills' at our Wednesday training sessions - last week it was 'ball control'. The team were focused at practice and enjoyed games of 'Greenlight/Red light' and 'Draw'. (Parents & carers can ask their girls what these are and perhaps enjoy a short 10 minute practice 1-2 times a week.)

Each training session always finishes with the girls' favourite, a mini game of football. (Surprise, surprise)

Be afraid - be very afraid - of the Leopards' attacking front line

I recently approached Elizabeth College and requested that they provide some 'guest trainers', young women players, to visit our training and teach some specific skills and of course...have tons of fun. I'm currently awaiting a reponse. Thanks for all the support from parents, carers and others.

I will be unable to take training this week, however Coach Graeme (Eva's dad) has volunteered to help. Thanks Graeme.

Here are two soccer sites worth a look - one is the new home of Soccer Tasmania
The Matildas will be playing in the Asia Cup next week and you can get all your information from these web sites.

Leopards fall to Christians

By Alice Cox

On Saturday 1st July we played Calvin Primary School at Kingston and the weather was foul. The score was 5-1 and we lost. It was good because we got a new team member who is very good. Her name is Alice Mary and she is a very good defender and tackler. Eleanor was leaving us and we feel sad. But if you find another person we will be happier. Rosie made the suggestion to bring Alice Mary. Well done Leopards!!

See you at this week's game: West Hobart Leopards v Collegiate Pink, 9.00am at Crossroads 6. Note that early start again.
