Snap! Leopards outrun Waimea Heights

Here's our victorious team after winning the final game of the season, 1-nil. Last time we played Waimea Heights, they beat us 3-1, so we've really improved. Koach Stephen gave us some inspiring words at half-time, but all honours to Bella for her first-half goal.

What a goal! Bella ran the ball beautifully towards goal then scored with her kick from a very difficult angle. Not just that, but she put the ball precisely where the Waimea goalkeeper wasn't.

Leopards with StephenBoth coaches made a wise decision to let each team field seven players instead of six; this meant fewer subs and better fun all round. Sarah had some great runs in the second half and was unlucky not to score. Alice had her usual array of power kicks in defence where she and Rosie repeatedly repelled Waimea's forward attacks.

How does Anna makes this ball hover?Great to see so many parents cheering on the Leopards, many of them with cameras. Come on Belinda, Jeremy and Alice Mary's twin brothers - where are your photos? It's thanks once again to Richard for these pictures. He's put a total of 29 photos from Saturday's match onto the Flickr photo-sharing website (including a few shots of the parents).

That was our final match but next week (2nd September) we're having a Leopards BBQ at Cornelian Bay starting at 2pm. There are several electric BBQs on the grass verge near the beach, adjacent to the playground. See you there!

Leopards vs Princes St Supernova

Wow! What an interesting name - Supernova. Perhaps it's a play on words, meaning they're all stars.

Today the Leopards lost by just one kick, with the final score 2-1. Sarah kicked our only goal; we're glad you're well again, Sarah.

Stephen wasn't able to get to the match because of work. We'll see you next week or at Wednesday training. Thanks to Michael and the other parents for umpiring and help with coaching today.

Richard (Mae and Mim's dad) took some photos today. Three of them are below with lots more on the Flickr website at this address.

Surprise defeat for Leopards

St Mary's Yellow team beat the Leopards 3-nil on Saturday, 12th August.

Rosie and AJ both played well, while Alice Mary was effective at both blocking and attacking. Bella frequently evaded the St Mary's defenders but needed more team support to convert good play into goals.

We definitely missed Sarah this week. Meanwhile, Eva - that's her below - played well in goal; Alice, goalie in the first half, stopped at least half a dozen shots.

It's down to Princess Street in Sandy Bay for our next game on 19th August. We play Princess St. Supernova at 12 noon. Good luck!

Thanks to Rosie's Mum and dad for sending us more of these excellent photos.

Leopards vs Taroona: one-all

West Hobart Leopards fought an engrossing match today. Sarah kicked the first goal before half time, with Taroona levelling in the second. Alice Mary almost scored a goal and played well in attack. More match details soon.

Richard and Jeremy brought their cameras (good work) and Richard has already posted 11 of today's photos on the Flickr website; this is his picture of Bella (Jeremy's are below).
Here's a selection of Jeremy's photos including this action shot of daughter Rosie.

Special guest at training

Leopards with AnnieOur coach Stephen invited an experienced player to share her skills with us at Wednesday training. Annie helped us with tips on kicking and throwing; that's her in white with the black headband. She usually plays U15 futsal, five a side indoor soccer.

If you've never heard of futsal, here's how Wiki explains the game.

Leopards beat the girls from St Mary's

Match report by Rosie's dad, Jeremy

On Saturday we played St Mary's Green. We won 3-2. Sarah was in fine form, lobbing the first goal over the opposition and making many other leading attacks.

It was yet another well-fought match, with both teams fairly evenly matched. Our girls never stop impressing me with their improving skills. All the girls are getting more gutsy, not holding back, getting in there and fighting for the ball!

On Saturday 5th August, Leopards play Taroona at Crossroads No.2 ground at 2pm.
